Letters from Home

Previous AFH adopters write these stories. They tell the stories of joy, sorrow, surprise, and – most of all – love that their new family members have brought to their lives.

If you would like to submit your own Letter from Home, please reach out to us via our Contact Us page or send an email to info@aforeverhome.org.

Trevor is a Champion!

Dear AFH: Super news from Trevor (aka Baxter adopted 2014).  Trevor is special. I knew that when he came to be part of our family.  I have had 5 rescues, past and present.  All have trained in several sports with me, obedience being one of them. We have had success at the Novice (CD) level, but in over 15 years of training and competing we could not break through to a higher level.  Until now.  Trevor is the very first of my beloved dogs to earn an Open title in obedience in any venue.  On August 1, 2021, Trevor earned his Companion Dog Excellent (CDX-C) title from the Companion Dog Sports Program (CDSP) at the age of 7 in Frederick, MD from the A class: 194.5 (1st), 194.5 (1st), 193.5 (1st). Trevor had to overcome a very rocky start with fearfulness, reactivity, and separation anxiety so that makes his achievement all that much more heartwarming.  Love him to the moon and back!  Thanks for allowing me be his forever Mom.

Yours, Diana Hong & Trevor

Sally Turns 17!

Hello, just wanted to share that Sally (formerly Chey Chey of Miracle’s puppies) turned 17 yesterday! The past few months have been rough but she’s hanging in there and still enjoys going out on her walks and popping up at the dinner table to see what’s on the menu!

Jurney (Dixie) n Hattie

Judy, It’s been one week since I brought Jurney home. Cannot believe how she and Hattie have connected. She is a real sweetheart, and we are so grateful to have her as part of our family! Coming up on almost 3 years ago that we adopted Hattie….hard to believe.  Our 2 hound mixes…..so beautiful, so sweet, so loved.  Thought you might like to see this picture.  Hattie on left, Jurney on right.  I chose the name Jurney, as a form of journey, because she sure was on one from wandering in Mississippi to her forever home here with us. Thank you…..A Forever Home, for all you ALL are, and all that you do. You are angels here on Earth. –Terri

WallE (Bowser)

Hi Carmen, I just came across some papers from A Forever Home. Thought I’d share some pics of our boy. He was previously called Bowser (born 6/26/20) He’s doing great!
Thank you!

Sadie (Maimie)

Dear Forever Home –

I adopted a Shar Pei/Lab mixed from you back in March 2007. She was born January 20, 2007 and was eight weeks old when I adopted her. Her name is Sadie. She was one of the Presidential pups; Mamie Eisenhower. A year after I adopted her, my only child was killed in a car accident. The devotion and love of that sweet loyal pup made each day less of a struggle and a challenge. Thirteen years later, she’s more loving, devoted and loyal than ever before. Though she is ferously dedicated, she is very laid back, easy going and extremely sweet and gentle. Today marks Sadie’s 14th birthday and though I should have submitted this a long time ago, I wanted you to know how thankful and grateful I am to your organization and in awe of all the magnificent work you do for the animals, especially the dogs. I love this dog beyond words. Not only is she not just a dog, she’s the reason I can get up and start every day! Thank you for allowing me to share this with you. I just wish you knew what you have done and how deeply appreciative I am that you approved my application for her adoption.

I’m beyond words how blessed I am that she rescued me!

With sincere thanks, Diane

Izzy Lou Waiting for Santa in PJs!

Hello! I want to send my yearly thank you for rescuing my beloved schoodle Izzy (nee Elena) from a Missouri puppy mill in 2009. She is my utter joy and love. She’s about 11.5 now and still as spunky as ever. While she prefers to run outside and roll in the mud, I did put her in her Christmas PJs and put bows in her hair a few days ago and captured this adorable photo. See attached. I thought you may giggle. Thank you again for all that you do- have an amazing New Year!

Bailey

Bailey is loving her forever home!

Jacie (Juno’s Janney)

To A Forever Home, I’ve attached some pics of my pup, originally called “Juno’s Janney.” I adopted her in January 2017 (DOB 10/25/16). We renamed her “Jacie” and she is a very much loved member of the family. This is her forever home. She could never be considered optional. She’s an amazingly sweet, friendly girl and such a wonderful addition to my family. She’s playful, happy, smart, and makes me laugh every day with her goofy antics. She’s very healthy, well-behaved, and so very spoiled in the best ways possible. Just thought I’d share some pics of my sweet little girl. And thank you for what you do. I’m so grateful that I got to adopt her.

Sincerely, Tara

Snoop Dogg (Petie)

Thank you for all you do! We adopted “Petie” (now known as Snoop Dogg) earlier this summer, and he has been an amazing family member. He fits in perfectly, and is the sweetest thing! Thanks again, Kandice

Trevor the Champ!

Dear AFH,  Just a quick update on Trevor who is now 6 1/2 years old.  He earned several titles from the International Dog Parkour Assoc. during the Covid shut down including Novice parkour dog, Level 3 Quarantine specialist, Level 3 Four Foor On specialist, and Level 2 Under Specialist.  He is currently working on his Intermediate parkour title. We will be resuming some WCRL rally at the end of September.  On September 13th, he finished his AKC Fast CAT title the “FCAT2′ with a nice 7.87 seconds x 100 yds,  25.99  mph and 3rd place in the medium height class. Here is a pic of us both in our title photo and one of him running full tilt down the course.  You can tell he loves this a lot! All the best and thank you letting us adopt him as a 7 month old in 2014, Diana
