What is a Foster?

Offering Rescue Dogs a Temporary Home

All dog rescue organizations have the same general mission – finding adoptive homes for dogs who are unwanted and abandoned. However, rescues vary widely in how they operate and what kind of dogs they take in. A Forever Home (AFH) is a foster-based rescue for all breeds, sizes, and ages. This means that we provide temporary homes (foster homes) for each litter or dog that we bring to our area.  We ask our foster families to keep the dogs safe, fed, healthy, and loved until they find permanent adoptive homes. If you are looking for a way to make a difference – fostering is a great way to get involved and save lives.

Can I do this?

Yes, you can!

Fostering is a commitment, but it is also a very rewarding experience. If you ask our current fosters why they volunteer with A Forever Home, they will tell you that there is a sense of belonging in the organization. They will tell you that they get much joy out of seeing a scared dog come out of his shell. It will warm your heart to watch a dog settle into a comfy dog bed when they were on the cold streets just last week. Volunteers will fondly tell you about each and every one of their foster dogs if you have the time to listen to all the stories. Rescue dogs will teach you about unconditional love and hope. You will be joining a network of other fosters in our organization who can provide the training you need to get started, as well as ongoing support and guidance.  If you have a willing heart and home, AFH will provide the resources and guidance you need to become a successful AFH foster.
