Blake (Gatsby) – Kind and Gentle

Good afternoon,

We were reading one of your newsletters this morning. We thought it would be nice to provide an update on Blake (formerly Gatsby). We adopted Blake from A Forever Home in June 2011. In March 2022, he will be 11 years old. He has been an amazing dog and companion for the past decade. About two weeks after adopting Blake, we adopted another dog, Clay. My friend from high school found him running on the interstate. They have grown up together and remain the best of friends. In 2014, we adopted Dixon and he completed the trio. Unfortunately, Dixon had to be put down in May 2021 due to non treatable health issues. Blake and Clay have adapted well and continue to live very active and social lifestyles. I am including a link of pictures of Blake. We confirmed via DNA he is a mix of Great Pyrenees, GSD and Boxer. He is the most kind and gentle dog we have ever shared our lives. I am attaching the picture of Blake the day we saw him at the adoption event in Springfield, VA. We now reside in Blacksburg, VA where Blake and Clay enjoy visiting Virginia Tech daily.

Molly (Hope) Adventurous Army Dog!

Molly has had a very adventurous army dog life. We adopted her in mid February of 2010 @ 8 weeks old which means she will be turning 12 next week 12/17. She has moved from VA to TN, then back to VA again and has since retired to the fingerlakes region of central NY in 2016. She still acts like a puppy and enjoys a large lawn, many squirrels to chase and a dad who works from home so she gets to be with him all day. – Thanks AFH for finding me such a loving home. They are so lucky to have me 😊🐶

Sweet and Silly Baxter

Baxter, formerly J-pup, JJ. He turned 2 in Oct and Feb 1 will be our 2yr anniversary of adopting him from you. He is really sweet and very silly. Thanks!

Cheers to a Happy, Healthy, & Prosperous 2022!

Ruby Finally Home

Ruby is adjusting well and feels very comfortable in our home. She absolutely adores children of all ages and my husband! She listens well and is obedient most of the time – especially if treats are involved. Ruby sleeps in our room on her bed and waits for us to arise before she gets up. Tennis balls continue to be a joy for her and her favorite toy, as you can see, is the one you sent with her. She has definitely filled a void in our lives. Thank you for being a wonderful foster and preparing her to move on to her forever home.

Sweet Moe

Sadly, just shy of a year after the passing of our wonderful girl Ava, we said a tearful goodbye to her sweet brother, Moe, and welcomed him to the Rainbow Bridge. Moe has been a wonderful goofball of a dog, and became a large and strong boy we could cuddle with when we needed it. He grew tall enough to almost look us in the eye in his prime and on his hind legs. He loved to run in our yard, and play with his brother and sister very much. In his last few years, his back legs became a bit unsteady, but he still loved to accompany us on walks in the neighborhood even in his last days. He had no end to the love he gave to us, and was a devoted companion to Deb and I, especially during the pandemic when we could stay at home and give him and the other fur babies lots of love and attention.  Just after Thanksgiving we brought him to our vet because of digestive issues and found that he had substantial cancerous tumors throughout his abdomen. We had some peaceful time with him, and told him we will always love his sweet face. Thank you, AFH for bringing Moe (as well as Ava and Shep) into our family.

Moose Filled Our Hearts

Moose 11/30/2007-10/16/2021

In 2008 we adopted one of Sadie’s 9 pups.  He was the last to get adopted and we were so glad that the best was saved for last.  Moose has been the best dog from the moment we brought him home at 12 weeks.  He has always been loving, calm and relaxed.  He filled our hearts with unconditional love.  He loved everyone he met.  The love between him and his dog brother that we brought into the family later was also so amazing.  Moose was such an important part of the family and we were sad to have to say good bye to him in October.  Our hearts ache without him but know that his tired body needed to run free with his other dog brothers and sisters that left before him.  Thank you AFH for bringing our perfect Moose into our lives.  He will never be forgotten.
