Letters from Home

Previous AFH adopters write these stories. They tell the stories of joy, sorrow, surprise, and – most of all – love that their new family members have brought to their lives.

If you would like to submit your own Letter from Home, please reach out to us via our Contact Us page or send an email to info@aforeverhome.org.

Annie (Fiona/Keisha) Beyond A Blessing

Hi everyone! As we are approaching Thanksgiving, I thought it was the perfect time to send a letter from home.  7 years ago, we adopted a rescue from your organization, who had started as Fiona, changed to Keisha during her first adoption, back to Fiona upon her return to your group, until one day we walked in and were blessed to find her.  Her name for the past 7 years has been Annie aka Little Orphan Annie.  We adopted Annie while we had one child and I was 7 months pregnant with our second.  Three years after the birth of our second child, we welcomed identical twins to our family.  Annie is beyond a blessing to this large family.  We could not have asked for a more loving, patient dog sibling to all four of our boys.  She is the best friend to every member of this family and true gift.  We are thankful every day that she chose us.

Happy Thanksgiving, The Winter family

Ham Solo (Italian Delight Ham)

Good afternoon, We just wanted to share some update pictures of Ham (now Ham Solo) with his new sister and family. He is such a sweet puppy! He is so smart and is learning commands even before classes have started! He also is a big cuddler with us and with his sister Lola! I see that the rest of the Italian Delight lifter is still up for adoption. We met with them all and they were all super sweet pups. If you need any helping spread the word to get them adopted we are willing to help in any way we can!

Thank you for bringing us our little Ham Solo! The Townsend family 💜

Ace – Doing Great!

Ace is doing great!  He has come a long way just in 24 hrs.  We are letting him settle in based on his comfort level.  His new sister Lucy is showing him the ropes.  Thank you for letting us adopt Ace.  He’s the sweetest boy.  PS- We bought him a brand new big bed but he prefers the old smelly one.  Ha

Abby (Notre Dame)

Hello!

We adopted Notre Dame – now Abby – at the beginning of October and we wanted to let you know how she is doing!  Abby has been a champ at the vet and only has one more round of shots to go before we start taking her to dog parks. She loves to play fetch and will do anything for a SmartStick! We have been working on her obedience skills and she is very consistent with “sit,” “down,” and “high five.” We are still working on “come” when there are exciting things going on. Her favorite toys are one that crinkle so she tries to swipe quite a few water bottles.

We created an Instagram for her if you want to check it out: https://www.instagram.com/spacecommanderabby/?hl=en

Feel free to share our email to anyone else from the Hurricane Pup litter!

Thank You! Amanda, Jeff, and Abby

Funny Bo and Zeke (Tierney and Brendan)

Hi A Forever Home, We have really loved our dogs who were born in the rescue to their mother Annie. Their given names were Tierney and Brendan. Bo and Zeke are 12
years old now and have walked us approximately twice a day (lots of mileage!). We have highly recommended A Forever Home to many people and have been grateful that we were able to adopt such loving funny hounds. Thank you for your service and happy holidays.

Mayor Bruce (Milo)

Hello!  This Monday, November 11, was the one year anniversary of our adoption of Bruce (formerly Milo) from A Forever Home. I just wanted to write to thank both A Forever Home and his foster mom, Emily, for connecting us with Bruce, who has become my best friend, the “mayor” of the dog park across the street, a brother to our previously lonely tabby cat, and a member of our family.

Bruce was 14 lbs when we got him, and it was assumed that he was around 10 months old. He is now 25 lbs, and our vet thinks he was closer to 5-6 months old when we got him a year ago. He is SUPER affectionate, loves his crate, has never met a dog or person he doesn’t like, and is very brave and clever! Most importantly, we can’t imagine our lives without him, and we have you all to thank for that. Sincerely, thank you again for caring for him and bringing us together. It means more to me than I can express.

I’m attaching some photos so you can see how he’s grown (and because he’s just the cutest).  Thank you again for the work that you do, and happy holidays!

Heidi (Donna)

I just wanted you to see how beautiful she is thanks to Donna her foster mom and all the team. Best of 5 dogs I’ve owned over the years. Grateful grateful!

Reef (Toby)

Hello, I just wanted to thank all of you  for your help in the process of my adoption of Reef (aka Toby). I had such a wonderful experience with AFH the first time I adopted that I really had hoped to find my new furry family member there again, despite the distance.  I was heartbroken when I lost my pup Rocky, and my other pup Dobby was terribly lonely. There of course is no replacing such a beloved member of the family, but there is always room to love more. Reef is an absolutely wonderful dog and a great addition to our family. I wanted to especially thank Patricia. She went well above and beyond in helping me to assure that Reef was the perfect fit. I live in VA Beach, so it is not a simple matter coming up to NOVA multiple times. However, it was important for me that the dogs meet, as well as the rest of the family, as it had to be a family decision. Patricia went out of her way on several occasions…. She clearly loves him, and she did everything in her power to assure that her foster baby went to the right home. I am so very grateful to her for being such a caring, dedicated foster mommy. Such devoted volunteers are what make AFH so special.  Patricia, I am so thankful for you, and I promise to take wonderful care of our new baby! I will keep you posted on his adventures and misadventures! 🙂 I am attaching some pictures. One is of Rocky and Dobby, and the others are of Reef and Reef and Dobby. He is very happy in his forever home.
Many thanks, Melissa
