Letters from Home

Previous AFH adopters write these stories. They tell the stories of joy, sorrow, surprise, and – most of all – love that their new family members have brought to their lives.

If you would like to submit your own Letter from Home, please reach out to us via our Contact Us page or send an email to info@aforeverhome.org.

Fun Photo

Here’s a fun photo of our crew!

May’s March

…She is a member of the family now and getting settled in nicely.  We have noticed in a short time that she is growing vertically, as evident while trying to get under the front screen door; week one easy, week three not so much…We have a one step stool in the kitchen that she has taught herself to climb up on and sit like a lion in a circus.  She also uses it as a perch to pounce on her toys…She is still a snuggler and loves tummy rubs, when she isn’t all excited and ready to play.  We finally saw a posting of May on Facebook so got a chance to see March’s Mom.  Now when March gets all excited Christine says March is being “all Pitty.”  We have a good laugh about it as we reach for the closet toy to help distract those puppy teeth away from our fingers and toes.  We have a big week coming up, we start some one-on-one puppy training… I have attached a few more…of a bigger March.  We call her a cat-dog now, as she likes to perch on the couch to look out the window.  She has also been kayaking and the B+W photo is from a beach house in Wilmington, NC this past Christmas.  She is about 45lbs now but still loves to be picked up and held.

Max and Rex

Rex(FKA Simon), and Max – my 2 favorite AFH Boys!
I will donate today in their names! They are alive and well, and spoiled rotten 😊 Thanks, Tere

Chico – London Boy Now!

Hi, I wanted to share an adoption story. I adopted Chico through A Forever Home Rescue in 2010. He was a senior dog at the time – 8 years old! Friends questioned why I would adopt a senior dog as their life expectancy wouldn’t be long. Well, Chico just celebrated his 17th birthday this month!Ines Castro, Chico’s foster mom, had him for a few months before being placed with me in Maryland. Chico has been a stray who was taken to a shelter in West Virginia.

Well we sure have come a long way – in 2013 we moved from Maryland to Manhattan. And earlier this year, we moved to London, England! He is doing well and loving his new life near Hyde Park and Kensington palace. A real wags to riches tale. 😉

Bennett (Pancake)

Here are a few pictures of Bennett, formerly known as Darcy’s Pancake. He is the perfect puppy for our family. He’s such a sweetie and a fantastic cuddler. We are so glad we found him at your adoption event. Thank you!

Schooner (Danny)

Hi Patti, I’ve attached the Schooner & Santa photo, as well as a couple of others from over the past year. He is quite the photogenic pup : ) Couldn’t have asked for a better best friend! Thank you!!!

Riley

Debbie and Jeff,

Riley has had a great first week. On her first day Riley met my parents and promptly stole their hearts. My dad ended up on the floor cuddling her and offered that she could come back to their house anytime (few dogs have earned that invitation).

It is now a common site to see one or both girls cuddled on the floor next to Riley, paws and hands held. It is also now common to find one or more of us playing in the backyard with her or sitting next to her giving final evening cuddles before bed. Even Tim can be found petting “his dog”. She is such a cuddle bug and will just accept whatever love you want to offer.
We’ve learned that she loves sticks, whiffle balls, and (our favorite) red solo cups!  She gets so excited when we give her a new cup.

Along with a few other adventures , Rileyhas been getting lots of walks to help her get used to the sights and sounds of our neighborhood. It turns out she does like to bark but she quickly backs down when we reassure her that it’s all okay. She is enjoying meeting new dogs and has shown us that cats are not a preference. Amusingly she could care less about squirrels and bunnies.

As you can see from the pictures, this rescued girl will never know neglect again.
Thank you again for the love and care you showered this beautiful girl over the past year.  We’re happy to bring her to any time you’d like for a visit.
Our girls have had a bit of a rough year navigating chronic illness within the family and several changes. Riley has already brought immeasurable joy to our family. Attached is a picture from adoption day; we love how our girls are beaming with joy.

God bless you both; Merry Christmas and Happy New Year,

Wendy

Peppy Pepe!

Hi Friends,

I am thankful and blessed to introduce to you Pepe! I adopted him last weekend through Foreverhome Rescue. We are having fun getting to know each other. Pepe sure has a pep in his step so we enjoy long walks. He loves a good snuggle and tug of war but I think most of all he loves to tuck himself away in the soft throw on the couch. He also did great at the vet where he was taken around to all the employees to gush over him.

Merry Christmas from Pepe and I!

Izzy (Elena)

Hello! I just made a donation on behalf of my adorable schnoodle, Izzy (nee Elena). She was rescued from a Missouri puppy mill in 2009 and brought into my life that fall. She is the utter joy of my life, and I can’t imagine a day without her. She continually makes me laugh and is the best snuggler on the planet! I’ve attached a photo I took of her recently after grooming….as she patiently awaits one of many treats! Thank you so very very much for all that you do!!! Best, Kerri
