Riley
My name is Riley. I am a Lab/Great Dane mix, or at least that’s what they say. I am more like a slightly large version of a Lab. I have quite a complicated story. I was living in Southern Virginia on a concrete patio in a backyard. That’s where I gave birth to fifteen puppies. Sadly one of them didn’t make it. When my babies were 10 days old I wandered off, I think to look for food. It’s kind of hard to remember because that’s when I was hit by a car. Fortunately, a neighbor saw it happen and got me to a vet. I survived, but my back legs were badly hurt. However, that’s when me and my puppies were rescued by AFH and placed in a nice foster home with people that love me and loved my puppies. I’m pleased to report that all of my puppies found great “forever homes.”
More about me. I have already had two surgeries on my left leg that included wearing a fixator for a number of weeks. That leg has healed and I am learning to use it more and more. Sometimes I do like to impress people by walking on my two front legs. I’m in the process of scheduling what should be my last two surgeries. I’m hoping that I can have them at the same time. One is my spay and my other one will be to repair my right hip which was fractured when I was hit by the car.
The prognosis is that I will fully recover with four good legs. I’m searching for my “forever home.” My foster family will tell you that I am gentle, loving, and smart. They’ll also tell you that I am great with children and other dogs. When I pretended to be asleep, I also heard them talking about what an amazing mom I was and how they marveled at the way I took care of my babies when I needed help from a sling to walk. I'm completely house trained and love riding in cars, going for walks, and my outside time. I also love to lay on the floor by my foster mom's feet when we're inside.
If you’re looking for a loyal and loving companion, please consider me. I love living with my foster parents and their dog Pete, but I want a “forever home” of my own. When I find it, AFH can give another dog the chance to live and find their new home. It’s our circle of life.
