Rambo and Konrad (originally Stoney) are adjusting well to Norway. I adopted Rambo (Lab Mix) in 2009 and Konrad (German Sheppard mix) in 2010 from AFH. They both celebrated their birthdays this month with carrot cake and dried fish (a typically Norwegian dog treat); Konrad turned 2 and Rambo turned 3. The adjustment from Virginia to Norway has been big but both dogs seem to be enjoying the crisp air, vast outdoors, sandy beaches, and welcoming dog culture. When I learned that I received a Fulbright Grant and would be going to Norway, I knew I would be giving up most of my life in Virginia--my job, friends, family, house, etc...--but the only thing I was not willing to give up were Rambo and Konrad. Many people questioned my judgement in wanting to bring the dogs, but of all of the "tasks" associated with moving abroad, one of the smoothest tasks was transporting the dogs. The new regulations for Norway that came out on January 1, 2012 actually made it quite simple to import both dogs (as long as I followed the directions). Naturally, we all miss the group of dogs we met up with in Virginia but we hope in time that we will find similar groups here on the southern coast of Norway over the next year.
