Shepherd / Labrador Retriever Mix
ZEUS is once again available for adoption, having recovered fully from a little tumble he took a few months ago where the small bones in his paw were broken. He is quite possibly the sweetest dog in the whole world. His litter was born in early June, and they lost their mom at the tender age of 3 weeks. They were discovered at the age of 5 weeks, malnourished and dehydrated and turned into the Fairfax County Shelter. The litter came into the care of AFH when they were 8 weeks old -- and he weighed about 5 lbs! His mother was a German Shepherd and we think his dad was a Lab, because two of his sisters were very much Black Lab-looking. Through all of his travails with the broken paw and the various casts and collars he's had to wear through his weeks of recovery, he has never so much as uttered a growl. He loves everybody he meets -- and everybody he meets loves him. He spent a lot of days during his recovery at his foster mom's office, where attention was lavished on him by everyone who walked in the door. At almost five months old, he weighs 35 lbs. and is 95% housebroken (sleeps in an X-pen at night because he can't yet make it through the night.) He is also getting pretty well leash-trained, knows how to sit on command and (almost) how to sit and wait for permission to eat his dinner. He is very eager to please. At his foster home, he has had constant contact with the cat and also occasional contact with grandchildren. Because of his size and being incredibly friendly and outgoing, he probably would do better with children upwards of age six rather than little ones, who he might accidentally run over! This is the most loving dog you will ever meet, with an endless capacity to give and receive affection.
