Maddie the Husky

Female (Altered) — Date of Birth: 11/01/2007 (18 years old (Senior))
Husky Mix
Maddie is a gorgeous female white and cream purebred Siberian Husky. Female Huskies generally weigh 35 to 50 pounds, and Maddie weighs a compact 35 pounds. She was bought from a breeder as a puppy and was surrendered to a shelter when her owner learned that she needed expensive surgery due to a congenital malformation that resulted in problems of urinary incontinence. We rescued her from the shelter. Under our care, Maddie underwent two surgeries, which were very successful, and she is now house trained, crate trained (she *loves* her crate!), and travels wonderfully. As a precaution to prevent urinary tract infections, she is currently on a long term medication to prevent urinary retention in her bladder -- a very inexpensive pill twice a day, and it is possible that at some point she can be weaned even from that. Maddie gets along really well with other dogs. She pretty much ignores cats, except for a kitten that she adores. Maddie has a great Husky temperament. She is fun, playful, alert, and loving, and she is sometimes wonderfully Husky-aloof and Husky-independent. She has been obedience-trained and responds well to commands whenever she wants (which is most of the time). She doesn't need to have a fenced yard, but, like most Huskies, she will likely scale any fence under six feet tall. Typical of Huskies, she needs to be kept under leash control when she is outdoors or when she is in a yard with a fence under six feet tall, lest she yield to the call of the wild. She does well with children at adoption events, but she can be frightened of them in the neighborhood, especially when they sail past on skateboards. She would do best in a home where everyone in the family is an adult or teen. Maddie tolerates the ruckus of adoption events, but she would really rather be somewhere else. She would love to meet you at our adoption events, and she would love even more to let you get to know her better somewhere more normal.
