Theodore
Male (Altered) — Date of Birth: 11/11/2017 (8 years old (Adult))
Redbone Coonhound Mix
Theo was adopted as a puppy and went to live in an apartment in the city. He reacted to the sounds, the lack of space and constant bombardment of other people and dogs whenever he left his home, leaving him very stressed and uncomfortable. The final straw was when his family welcomed their first baby. Theo simply did not have the necessary skills to deal with all the stressors in his life and he became extremely hesitant in every situation presented to him. He owners recognized this was an unhealthy way for Theo to live and although they loved him very much, they knew the best thing for both Theo and their growing family was to return him to the rescue so he could find a home where he could thrive.
Unfortunately , Theo’s owners were under the assumption that he could not stay in a crate, which meant he had no safe place to retreat when he needed to be away from the business that was all around him. Theo is now crate trained and is able to rest comfortably in that space.
Theo’s ideal new home would be one without young children, with a yard for him to explore, possibly with another dog (Theo has yet to meet a dog he doesn’t like), and owners who are willing to work with Theo to socialize him slowly to the new things that will be part of his life. He needs owners who will respect that he doesn’t need to love or greet all humans, and who will work with him on basic household manners. He is currently being fostered by professional trainers, who are willing to do a free training session with Theo’s new adopters on the day he goes home to help make sure the next chapter in his life starts out on a positive note.
If Theo sounds like the dog for you, let us know so we can arrange a meeting. He is a wonderful, smart, handsome, lovable boy and will make a great dog for the right family.
