Rusty the Doxie

Male (Altered) — Date of Birth: 09/13/2006 (19 years old (Senior))
Dachshund Mix
Rusty is a brown with some white, smooth short-coated miniature dachshund. No photo can do his cute face justice. He was rescued from the Parkersburg, West Virginia puppy mill. As a puppy mill dog he was crated for the first three years of his life, and as a result there are some things he is unable to do: stairs; play with toys; interact with children. Rusty has been in foster care over a year and has made some improvement. He will now walk thru a door threshold, and usually manages to hit the pee pad, if he wakes up and no one catches him in time to carry him outside. His fosters lovingly call him their "little football", not because he was kicked around in life, (although he was) but because he must be carried under one arm, like a football, and then he seems not to try to wiggle away. He is a dog that not only needs a safe and loving home, but a patient and understanding person, who is willing to love him "just the way he is": an adorable little guy who's greatest joys are dinner time, treat time and after he does a "snoopy-like happy dance". Well...you have to see it. Rusty does NOT bump into anything, but does seem to have diminished sight, but his nose makes up for the diminished vision. And he loves food! Perhaps with more individualized attention, he will continue to improve, but there are no guarantees.
