Labrador Retriever / Poodle (unknown type) Mix
Hi. My name is Winter and I am a 5 year old Labradoodle. I was used as breeding stock for my entire life and received very little human contact except when I was giving birth to puppies. The breeder even debarked me - for her convenience of course. AFH rescued me and several of my friends from this breeder. Some of my friends have been adopted and some are still in foster homes. I am a very lovable, sweet, gentle, high energy girl. I am also a bit mischievous (ask my foster mom about the pumpkin pie incident). I am also very shy. When I meet new people, my first reaction is to try to get away because I'm just not sure what their intentions are. However, if you spend a little time with me so I know that I shouldn't be afraid of you, I start to get comfortable. Eventually I turn into a lap dog and will follow you everywhere just waiting for a hug or a pat on the head. My foster mom says that I'm a puppy in an adult dog's body. I never walked on a leash until recently but I am doing pretty well with the whole leash concept. I am doing very well with housetraining too - I only have an occasional accident and it's usually my foster mom's fault - just ask her! Since I act like a puppy, I do chew things but I am learning that not everything is for chewing. Since I grew up in an outdoor kennel, most typical household noises were foreign to me and used to scare me quite a bit. Since my foster mom has been exposing me to lots of everyday noises, I am making progress on getting over my fear. I love my two foster brothers (I like all the dogs I've met so far), who are teaching me how to act like a dog. I don't like to brag but I am very smart and have come a long way in the short time I have been with my foster mom. She says that I need a patient home where my new family will expose me to the world and help me be comfortable in it. I just need a little time. Since I am very shy and just starting to get to know people and learning to trust them, I would prefer a home without small children. I don't have an aggressive bone in my body but I might accidentally knock over a small child since I am an active dog. If you have any questions about me, or want to meet me, please call my foster mom at 540.439.2260. Her name is Patti. You can also email her at [email protected]. I didn't get my Christmas wish (to find a forever home of my own), but that's ok. I know that my new family is out there somewhere and that they will find me soon. I'm ready when you are! Love, Winter.
