We are heartbroken to say goodbye to our beautiful boy, Shep. From when he first came to us as a playful pup back in 2013 to his more recent quiet days on his dog bed, Shep filled our lives and our hearts with beautiful memories. Whether he was wrestling with our other dogs over a coveted stuffed animal or running to the door as soon as his dad brought out his leash, his love of adventure fueled his journey.

When he first joined our household, he weighed a little over 20 pounds and had to find his place among our two older dogs, both of which dwarfed him in size. He easily conquered our 95-pound hound dog named Moe, but met his match in Ava, the unequaled alpha (among the dogs!) in our household. But he was always an unending source of love and affection to all of us. He always claimed Mom’s lap to curl up in (or near, as he grew), and he loved snuggling between Mom and Dad at night in bed.

This year saw him slow down as his mobility in his back legs became more limited. He still loved his daily walk, getting to see people and sniff all the smells, even if it was a bit more leisurely than in the past, and getting treats when returning home (especially Greenies). Increasing difficulties related to liver and kidney disease ultimately became too much for him and he stopped eating. Our vet helped Shep pass peacefully at home.

We miss him more than words can say, but we will always remember his enthusiastic kisses, his cuddles on the couch, and always his love. Thank you AFH!
