Scrappy 10 Year Update

Hi!

Wanted to drop a note that after 10 years, we are still loving on our girl Scrappy from A Forever Home. She was adopted under the name Smoky Girl…We recently said a very sad goodbye to her brother of 14 years, Scruffy, and I came across your website in beginning my search for a new pup to love.

I attached some recent pictures of our girl Scrappy (the smaller of the two pups in the pictures). She still loves to chew socks, clothes, couches (we’ve been through a few thanks to her), blankets (which doesn’t prevent us from letting her sleep in our (her?) bed every night), etc. She jumps on our kitchen table when we’re not looking and her 20lb self can even jump onto our kitchen counters! Little troublemaker that she is (we still tell ourselves that her 11 year old self will grow out of the puppy phase at SOME point :-), she is the best worst dog ever!

Jokes aside, all is well. Since her adoption, she is helping us raise 4 kids (one set of twins in there) and loves to play fetch every day. Even when her arthritis kicks in and we have to give her the occasional Rimadyl, she is in good spirits. We also moved out of the city a few years ago and now she has a huge yard for playing and exploring.

Thanks for giving two graduate students the opportunity to share our young lives with this pup 10 years ago. She’s wonderfully spoiled by us, but we are equally spoiled by her as well 🙂

Zoe and Rory Home

Zoe was adopted as a pup and returned to AFH recently. As luck would have it, her brother Rory, adopted as a pup as well, was looking for a new friend. Rory’s mom happened to be looking on our website when she saw a familiar face. Both Zoe and Rory are now happily living together in their forever home!

Winner of Air Fryer Raffle!

The winner of our Air Fryer raffle is Laura Revilla. She is pictured here at center, accepting her prize, along with her daughter (left).

An AFH volunteer donated the fryer and an Aldie gift card to provide support for our Brownie’s Fund. Brownie’s fund pays for medical care for dogs with extraordinary expenses. One recent dog was Rylie, who required multiple surgeries after being hit by a car, shortly after giving birth to 14 pups! Mom and pups have all found their forever homes.

Congrats Laura!

Romeo and Juliet Reunited

This has been a Happy Valentine’s Day for two of our rescued doggies; Romeo and Juliet found their forever home together. We want to thank to Julie Sun and Beth Brummett for coming to Fox 5 this morning to reunite this pair, rescued from being tied to a burnt out trailer for a year.  If you missed it, you can view it at http://www.fox5dc.com/news/389443751-video.

2019 Dog Rescue Calendar

Deck your walls in 2019 with this adorable calendar of A Forever Home rescue dogs. The calendar also makes a great gift – perfect for a gift exchange – and all proceeds benefit A Forever Home Rescue Foundation and help further our mission to rescue dogs in the Northern Virginia area.

All of the dogs featured in our calendar have been adopted through our organization. Our monthly stars are photos voted on by our supporters and our cover features photos of our adopted dogs sent in by our volunteers and adopters. We also would like to thank the incredible sponsors listed below who helped make this calendar happen.

There are two purchase options available:

  1. Local pickup. You may pick up your calendar at any of our adoption events or in Reston.
  2. Delivered. If you’re not local to Northern Virginia, or if coming to one of our adoption events isn’t convenient, we’ll deliver a calendar to you!

In either case, thank you for supporting the rescue! Without your help, we couldn’t rescue the more than 1,000 dogs we do every year!

LPC Cares!

A Forever Home was invited to bring some of our doggies out to meet our benefactors at the Lincoln Property Management fundraiser. We are the lucky recipients of needed supplies and nearly $1000 in cash donations. Thanks to their support, we are able to provide needed medical care for some of the dogs and pups rescued this year.

Trixie’s Story

Super sweet, super wiggly Trixie is one lucky little girl. Her previous family moved away and left her chained to a tree, ready to have her puppies any minute. When the neighbors noticed that she’d been out there for a few days with nobody coming to feed or water her and that the weather was starting to turn cold, they cut her chain and took her to the local shelter. The shelter she was taken to has an extremely high kill rate, and poor Trixie was next in line for euthanasia if someone didn’t speak for her immediately. Luckily, AFH caught wind of little Trixie’s plight, and immediately took her into foster.

Only a few days after being placed with her foster family, on Veteran’s Day, Trixie went into labor. She delivered six beautiful, healthy puppies, with the help and support of her foster parents. Now, Trixie gets to spend her days in a warm, safe foster home with plenty of people who love and dote on her while she takes excellent care of her little family. Her human foster sisters even read her a story every night before bedtime!

Trixie’s puppies will start looking for their forever homes in about six weeks, and Trixie will start looking for hers a few weeks after that when she’s able to be spayed. In the meantime, they’ll all enjoy plenty of cuddles and cookies, and get to stay out of the cold.

Julie and her Puppies

Julie & her puppies

Julie is a pretty little Beagle girl who had the bad luck of being very pregnant and being taken to a very rural, very full shelter, as part of a hoarding case. Because the shelter was already beyond capacity, Julie, along with her former housemates, were facing immediate euthanasia, but her luck was about to change.

AFH stepped in and took Julie into foster care just in the nick of time. She was only with her foster family for a few days before she delivered a beautiful, all-girl litter of five healthy puppies, right on her foster mom’s lap! Now, mommy and babies are all safe and loved, and getting bigger and stronger by the minute. In about six weeks, Julie and her babies can start looking for their forever homes.

AFH saves hundreds of momma dogs and their babies, just like Julie and her little girls, from being killed in shelters, and gives them the chance to find loving, forever homes with fabulous adopters. Every donation goes directly toward our efforts to continue this important work, and to saving little lives every day.
