Letters from Home

Previous AFH adopters write these stories. They tell the stories of joy, sorrow, surprise, and – most of all – love that their new family members have brought to their lives.

If you would like to submit your own Letter from Home, please reach out to us via our Contact Us page or send an email to info@aforeverhome.org.

Lila’s Homecoming

Over the years we’ve been blessed by family dogs: Carmen, Audrey (A Forever Home), Kingston and Lila (A Forever Home). While losing a pet is emotionally devastating, finding the right pet can be tremendously uplifting! After Audrey died, we realized Kingston sorely missed and needed a companion, so our daughter began searching for a puppy. We turned to A Forever Home, as it offered a reliable network of families fostering puppies. Upon identifying possible mates, we rode with Kingston to meet them. What better place than a spacious, fenced backyard for Lila and Kingston to get acquainted! Lila was fostered by a family whose friendly, male pup helped her adapt to living inside and out. Our dogs played together for over an hour. Lila won Kingston’s heart and ours too. Today Lila leads our pack (as Kingston is gone) and brings joy and unconditional love to us all.

Sadie (Ally)

Hello! My name is Shayna, and my husband, Lucas, and I adopted our little Sadie a little over a year ago from A Forever Home. We just adore her. She melted our hearts at the first moment we met, and I just wanted to send a few photos of her over the past year. She loves snuggling and playing with her brother, Winston! Thank you so much for making the Ford Family the “FoUrd” Family! Warmly, Shayna

Lilly (Penny) – Right at Home!

Good morning!

Just wanted to let you know that Penny is now Lily, and she has made herself
right at home. She is so good and sweet – we are just loving her. Thanks so
much for all that you do for animals in need of homes. Our family feels
complete again.

Chewie – A Very Good Boy!

Hello, friends! My name is Chewie, and I’m a very good boy! My parents tell me I’m the sweetest, most loving pup in the world! Soon after AFH rescued me from an Alabama puppy mill, my family adopted me, and I’ve been living the good life ever since with my parents and my Maltese sister, Abby. My favorite activities include snuggling on the couch, napping, belly rubs, and most of all, eating tasty treats. I love everyone I meet, and I’m especially thankful for the wonderful AFH volunteers who helped me find my forever home!  My family and I wish everyone a very happy holiday season!

Homer and Chena

It is our pleasure to help.  You fostered our “puppies,” now 10.5.  Homer and Chena (Dusty and Franny as they were known then) have been a constant joy, even though Chena is a medical mess (pancreatic enzyme deficiencies and diabetes, heart murmur, etc.).  They are the sweetest dogs and we love them to pieces.

We appreciate your hard work and efforts to help the creatures.

Chewy (Applejax)

Chewie came into our lives a little over three years ago.  We had just started our casual search when my husband came across his sweet face online.  He’s been our Forever dog ever since.  Our youngest of three daughters, Caroline, pictured here, always rubs his face and says, “You’re such a cute dog!”   He is so lovable, sweet, and happy that I recently began to think about sharing him with others as a Therapy Dog.  He is currently undergoing special training to receive his certification, and the company with whom he and I are training have said he would be phenomenal at this.  I can’t wait to share his sweetness with those who are in need of a Chewie cuddle.  Thank you for all that you do for canines and families alike.   Our family certainly would not be the same without him.

Gunner (Benny)

Hi friends,

Just wanted to send a photo and update from my beautiful boy Gunner (Alexa’s Benny). Gunner is a rambunctious four month old, who loves to play fetch and go on really long walks with mom. His favorite snacks are Gibson’s back strips and peanut butter. He’s doing really great with potty training and following the rules of the house. He’s very friendly and loves meeting new people especially kiddos! He loves his stuffed Alligator Albert and his stuffed Pheasant Philbert.  Gunner loves spending time at daycare and can’t wait for puppy kindergarten.  I look forward to bringing him to my dog friendly office once he learns 9-5 manners, lol. I want to thank your team for bringing Gunner into my life. He’s been a wonderful addition to the family and we all love him so so much.  Follow him on Instagram: gunner___point

Georgia Loving Home!

Georgie is doing very well. She’s up to about 25 pounds now. She lives to run outdoors.

Scruffy (Scrappy)

If it weren’t for A Forever Home, we wouldn’t have Scruffy (aka Scrappy).
