Piksi
Male (Altered) — Date of Birth: 10/23/2019 (6 years old (Adult))
Anatolian Shepherd Mix
Piksi arrived to the U.S. from Iran on November 10th. They literally took his crate off the plane and loaded it in the back of my car. He was in transport and in the crate for 36 hours! The woman who assisted with the transport told me that Piksi had been found on the street in Iran when he was approximately 6-8 weeks old. His ears had been cut off and were still bleeding when they found him. He was taken to a shelter where he stayed in a kennel indoors for the next 10 months of his life. When he finally came out of the crate in my back yard, it was the first time he had ever walked on grass. He has a beautiful, thick, and very soft tawny coat with black points. He is a gorgeous dog! He did not have the advantage of any training or socialization or even kindness for the first year of his life. He was terrified of everything when he first arrived - leashes, cars, noises, etc. He has made tremendous progress but he is still trying to figure out the world around him. He lacks confidence and cannot determine who is friend or foe. He is very wary of other dogs and men. We are currently working with a trainer to build his confidence. He would do well with a strong owner who can give him boundaries, which makes him feel safer. He is relaxed here in his foster home and even has a canine buddy that he loves to play with. When he feels safe and relaxed, he is a real sweetheart! Unfortunately, he still sees lots of danger in the world and most situations make him very uncomfortable but we're working on that. Because of his size and fearfulness, he will need a home with no young children (under 15) or other pets and he will need to continue his training and have boundaries set for him. He does much better in quiet environments where there isn't a lot of commotion. With patience, consistent boundaries, and training, he can grow into a loyal, relaxed companion.
