Bear

Male (Altered) — Date of Birth: 06/09/2013 (11 years old (Senior))
Pomeranian Mix

Bear was given up by his family because they could no longer care for him. They have named him Prince Prancing Fuzzy Black Panda Bear! He is adorable. I couldn’t believe after going through the trauma of being given up, he was still prancing. He even spins! When his leash gets tangled in front of him, he spins to get himself untangled. He also does it when he is waiting to get his collar on or waiting at the door for you to come in. He just has so much joy and good nature.

He stays in a crate during the night and for naps. He will give short barks to let you know when he is awake but he will stop if you don’t come to get him.  Being so small, I expected to have to take him out every four hours but he is able to sleep through the night in the crate. Boy, he is really smart and learns fast.

His crate is near my cat’s litter box and food bowls and next to a couple rabbit cages. I found he completely ignores other animals. It is amazing. Any other dog would have started barking with rabbits so close.  During walks, he also ignores squirrels.

He is very social with the other dogs at the adoption event. He sniffs everyone and was not fazed by barking or lunging dogs. With 4th of July so close, you wonder if he will be fearful of the fireworks. I expect not; someone was setting off some fireworks in my neighborhood last night and he didn’t seem to notice at all.

For a small dog (10 pounds) he is amazingly good natured and confident. I would be comfortable with him in a home with kids or old people (he doesn’t jump and he stays out from under my feet). Also, he spends about an hour on my lap each day because I have been grooming him (the previous owners didn’t realize they needed to comb out his undercoat – I will show you how to do it). But, I think he would make a good couch potato dog if that is what you are looking for.

The foster lives between Alexandria and Springfield Mall so if you would like to meet Bear at a public location in that area, contact [email protected] and a message will be sent to the foster.
