Lila

Yeah, that’s me, Lila. Now don’t get the wrong idea. I am a Bassett mix with a howl to prove I “ain’t nothing, but a hound sdog.” However, I am much, much smaller nd weigh only 22 pounds. I have the same long body and short legs, but my body is much smaller than those 50-60 lb.full Bassett adults you may meet.

Yes, I am full grown. Oh, did I tell you I’m from Florida? Yes, a good Southern girl. I’ve had all my shots and been spayed. They think I may have had a litter, or two, as I was found in a hoarding situation and brought to a shelter in Florida. That’s when these two wonderful volunteers drove me, and a bunch of other dogs up here to Virginia to be rehomed by AFH! Thank them for saving me!

Now I do not boast to be perfect (like my foster’s other foster dog, Dudley), but I am pretty much a get along, go along girl. I’m good in the car, and actually will sleep on the back seat of the car, once we are rolling along to the adoption show. I am in Maryland, so please email if you want to meet me. Hate for you to waste a trip, and miss seeing me… I am not lying when I say I am quite the beauty.

The only drawback is the I am not completely housebroken, but I am making great strides. My foster mom has begun taking me for walks, to encourage me, and so far I am learning to follow other dogs’ scent. I don’t want you to think I cannot learn new rules.

I love to run around the yard, listen to the birds, and even chase a tennis ball and return it (when it’s not cold and raining.) Well…most of the time I do what is called a “fetch.”

I do settle down and sleep next to my foster, on the sofa, on the bed, and on a favorite dog chair, where I curl my body to fit the chair. I have to be honest, I generally do not like young children. I am picky about my doggie friends but it really depends on the other dog as I currently live with two other older dogs and several cats.

That said, if you are patient, I will cover you with kisses, and lay my head on your lap, or even let you hold me on my back, and rest a like a baby in your arms.
