Hello, my name is Kayla and I am a pure-bred Pekingese. The Pekingese breed is known to be calm and quiet, dignified, independent, and sometimes stubborn. In addition to all of those traits, I also happen to believe that I am descended from royalty, which is why my foster mom usually calls me "Princess Kayla". Although I had a tough start when I first arrived at the rescue (I was heartworm positive and also had a back injury that required surgery), the folks at AFH took great care of me, and now I am ready to go to my Forever Home! If you are looking for an active companion to chase tennis balls and go for daily jogs, then just keep on looking! I prefer to spend my time on a bed, a couch, or a pillow, and (unless food is involved) I can't imagine any reason I would want to leave my cozy spot! Because of my back surgery, I'm not supposed to go up and down a lot of stairs. That's not a problem for me because I like to be carried anyway, but if you live somewhere with a lot of stairs and you don't want to carry me all the time, then I might not be the best dog for you. I like other dogs, and I don't think I have an opinion about cats...I'm also OK with children as long as I have a crate or other safe place to go when I am ready for a break! Besides all of that stuff, I am a sweet, gentle, and loving dog who will melt your heart with my big eyes and even bigger personality!
