Lucy and Ethel

Female (Altered) — Date of Birth: 09/21/2005 (18 years old (Senior))
Dachshund Mix
These 2 little ladies, Lucy in the pink collar and Ethel in the black, are dachshunds that were rescued from the puppy mill in West Virginia. From the looks of these sweeties, they have both been moms and Ethel is smaller than Lucy (3 years old) with some patches of gray fur but, she's just as quick and agile as Lucy. When we got them early Thursday morning, August 28th, they were both cowering in the crate and scared to death of people. Since we've had them home, they have become much more socialized with lots of help from Shannon, our 6th grade neighbor who has spent a lot of time gently talking to them and petting them very softly. They recognize her when she comes over and will now sit in her lap. Lucy and Ethel still stay very close together when they're in their x-pen and startle at loud noises or abrupt movement. Lucy still tends to shake when we first take her out of the pen, but quickly stops as she becomes comfortable with us again. Once they're out, they love to romp in the yard and follow us around like little ducklings. Ethel will even jump up on our legs wanting us to pick her up. They show great interest in any dogs that come by and have no fear of our 55 pound dog. They will both go to the bathroom outside and keep their x-pen fairly clean and dry. Lucy and Ethel would be so happy to have a loving forever home, but they would do much better meeting their new family at their foster family's Sterling home rather than at an adoption event...that would be much too stressful for them at this point in their socialization. Please call us if you're interested in meeting these 2 lovely ladies at 703.421.9345. (Lucy is adopted)
