Max

Male (Altered) — Date of Birth: 03/29/2003 (21 years old (Senior))
Boxer Mix
MAX is a five year old, male, mixed boxer. His wrinkled forehead indicates he may also have a little Shar Pei mixed in. He is a true Gentleman, as he came to us already knowing the "sit" command. He has been neutered, had all of his shots and is very relaxed in his foster home. His history is a little sad, as we have learned. His first home abused him, and as a result he is still a little hand shy. His second home took him in when his family decided to move and give Max away. The second home did not help his already frightened state. He was kept loose in their backyard year round, 24/7. He had a doghouse for shelter, but that is not much when you are a short hair breed like Max. Although he was lucky to have avoided heartworm, he was not so lucky with lyme disease. He has been treated and now has gained weight, to a healthy 50 pounds. With the help of his fosters' TLC (Tender Loving Care) he has regained his trust of people and his tail is no longer tucked between his legs, but wags. Stand clear, as it can hurt when he's very happy. He still dislikes thunderstorms, common for many dogs, and just stays close by his fosters. Max is already housebroken and crate trained and he can be trusted in the house when alone with his fosters other two dogs. Usually, they all nap in a variety of beds. Max has a very gentle mouth and allows bones to be removed, when it is time to go to sleep. He likes nyla bones, but enjoys the evening treat of a pig's ear, as well. Max is even learning how to play. He has learned how much fun it can be to tear out the squeaker from a stuffed toy, after spreading the stuffing out on the floor. He is also learning how to fetch a tennis ball in the yard. However, be forewarned, that he is experiencing a bit of a "second puppyhood", perhaps because he was not allowed to enjoy his first. So, sometimes he chews what he should not, when one forgets to check out exactly what he is so quietly chewing. However, when he is done for the day, he curls up in one of the dog beds, or on the floor nearby. And if you invite Max up on a sofa or the bed, he will join you, but usually waits to be asked. As stated earlier, a true gentleman. Sorry- NO CATS.
