Dachshund Mix

Hi my name is Red, as in the color. I am a 1 year old red Dash-hound mix and weigh about 31 pounds. I guess you might classify me as a medium size dog just a little lower to the ground as you probably might expect. At times my foster mom thinks I may be mixed with a little Bassett Hound, as I seem to have a Bassett Hound stomach and nose that can sometimes gets me into trouble. What can I say food just should not be so tempting and smell so darn good. I am a sweet dog if I do say so myself. I can be outgoing at times especially if another dog is getting all the attention and will often try to "play cute" so people can lavish their attention onto me. I am a great seat warmer, but will need to be reminded, that is where my master sits. If you push me off I soon jump up next to you so I can be cuddled and in easy reach to give you a kiss. I get along well with other dogs, unless there is food around. Then I could get a little cranky and not want to share with them. I am kind of housetrained and at times my foster mom thinks I am really close. I even scratch on the door sometimes, but I haven’t quite figured out how to tell my foster mom before she says "want to go out." I am really good at keeping on a schedule, so I have not had an accident in my foster mom’s house as long as she keeps me on schedule. I am crate trained and if you pull out a treat or my dog food will go running into the crate without a question. After the food is gone I may whine a little, but will quiet down after a few minutes if I didn’t get anyone’s attention. It does help that I know that at a certain time my foster mom has to go to work so I pretty much stay quiet until she gets home. Then I just can’t contain my excitement and may get a little yippee, but settle down after I get attention. I am hoping to find a family that has older more responsible children or no kids at all. Because I love food I may startle or accidentally hurt a young child if I jump up to get food. I do get along well with young kids and love to play with them, but if they have food I will try to grab at it. Will you give me a chance? Because I am so food motivated I’m sure I will be easy to train if I have someone to give me the time and perhaps work on some of my bad habits. I just want someone to give me a lot of love and attention, perhaps throw me a toy or two so I can play.
