Finding forever homes for dogs in need
Frog would love to find her forever home for Christmas. This adorable girl is so happy and wags her whole body when she meets you. She is so loving and sweet. She is housebroken and leash trained. She can’t wait to meet you!
Kameron is a sweet boy who was found on the side of a road in rural Mississippi, unable to walk. He was rescued and nursed back to health. Although he still has some clumsiness in his front legs due to permanent nerve damage, it doesn’t bother him at all! He does amazingly well and loves running with all the dogs in his foster home. He can now do stairs in his foster home, is housetrained and knows to sit. Kameron just can’t wait to find his forever home!
Petunia is a pure-bred boxer landed at a shelter in North Carolina as a stray. Both of her eyes had a condition called cherry eye which required surgery to correct. The surgery was a complete success and she could not be happier. She is an awesome girl who is great with people and kid friendly. She is gentle, very sweet and playful. She is an active girl and loves playing in the backyard. If you like boxers, you will love her!
Walker is a big, loveable boy that enjoys playing. He enjoys people and other dogs. He has never met a stranger and is just a big, loving lug. You could not ask for a better dog!
Santa Paws was a complete success. AFH would like to thank Pender Pet Retreat for hosting us and providing cookies and cocoa for attendees. We enjoyed meeting all the families and their doggies. It was also great seeing so many of our adopted babies with their forever families. We made well over $640 in funds that will go to help AFH finding loving homes to more deserving dogs and pups. Happy Holidays to everyone and we can’t wait to do it again next year!
It is hard to believe the holiday season is here, with Thanksgiving is just around the corner! In this newsletter we have lots of goodies. We highlight Cookie and the Culvert Pups hoping to find their forever families. We also spotlight some of our favorite volunteers: Amanda Davis, Denise and Marleny Spencer, Luke Portofe, and Shena Jocuns. We have in Memory of Scruffy and Jenny, and a Letter From Home from Luna. There is also a nice article from our new friend Reuben Hothersall on the dangers of overfeeding your pet and finally highlights from our Casino Night! Click here to read all about it.
Today is the day! Our goal is to raise $40,000 this Tuesday and so far we have raised $5,000! We are so grateful for the support, but know we can do better. Please help us to continue our life saving work. Help us find homes for abandoned pups, pregnant mommies, orphaned doggies, lost pets, and all of those helpless lives that end up in shelters where they have no chance. Give them all the hope of finding that place we call A Forever Home! Donate at https://to-afh.org/Donate
As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude for your ongoing support. In the spirit of the season, there will be no adoption event Saturday November 25th to give our dedicated volunteers a well-deserved break to spend Thanksgiving with their families. Contracts will still be signed as scheduled. We hope you have a wonderful holiday and look forward to seeing you at our next event December 2nd. Wishing you a joyous Thanksgiving week!
Thank you everyone who came out to support us at the Lazy Dog Fundriaser. We got lots of great adoptions and met lots of wonderful people. Of course the food was great and the pups were all tuckered out at the end. Thanks to your support, we also raised $876.39! Thank you Greg Bietz and all of the wonderful Lazy Dog Chantilly staff!
Dear Forever Home, My name was Kali as a young puppy 2012 when my Mom and Dad, Sheryl and Larry, found me through A Forever Home after a raid on a puppy mill down south. Now I am 18 pounds of Casey and since then I have been busy learning about 20 tricks, including falling “dead” when you shoot me with your fingers (it’s ok, I’m not really hurt!). I just had a little surgery on my knee, but am doing great and have returned to toy throwing, going walkies and enjoying my new memory foam beds all over the house (I’m not spoiled, really I’m not!) I’m just as much fun and joy as I was as a pup. My Mom makes fun images of me, thought you might these! Love to all you doggie parents and saviors!

The Waples Mill Elementary Girls on the Run team hosted a “Pizza for Pups & Cookies for Cats” pizza and bake sale on May 15th! The girls brainstormed, planned, and implemented the event independently with guidance from their Girls on the Run (GOTR) coaches. This community impact project is one of the girls’ capstones upon completing the 10-week program that focuses on preparing them with life skills to help them be healthy, joyful, and confident. On Saturday, May 20th, the girls completed their second capstone – a 5K run/walk – celebrating all their accomplishments. The Waples Mill GOTR team all have an enthusiastic passion for helping those in our community, especially our four-legged friends, and said this “was the best service project” they’ve ever done! The girls are proud to share that their efforts raised $200 for A Forever Home and are happy to help the pups and kittens in our community.

Hi, We adopted Monica’s Belle in November. She now goes by Lucy and has settled into our home and our hearts very well! We graduated from Puppy Kindergarten class this evening and thought we would share a photo of the goodest girl 😉. Thank you for all the care you guys gave her. I know she had a wonderful foster Mom in Tricia (who I believe went on to adopt Lucy’s brother Thor). The strong start she got in her foster home has gone a long way in making her a success.
