Description: Hi, my name is Alice. I am beagle/dachshund mix. I am housebroken, crate trained and moderately active. My favorite past time is spending time with my foster mom and my foster sister who I am laying with in the picture. She says I am an angel because I don't chew on anything and she can trust me when I am out of her site. I am not good with young children as they make me nervous so I would do best in a home with no children under 12 years of age. I prefer to be the only pet so I can get all the hugs and kisses. I walk nicely on a leash and am not a big barker.

Description: Shelby gave birth to her babies on June 3, 2010. There are three healthy pups, two girls and one boy. Aston-Martin and Ferrari are the girls and the little boy is Little GTO. Aston- Martin is the only pup remaining in this litter that is available for adoption.

Description: Isn't she just adorable! This poor little girl had a badly broken leg and cracked pelvis and has already had multiple surgeries to repair the damage. Unfortunately, her rear leg could not be saved and it was amputated today (Aug 23). Once she fully recovers and does some rehab, she will be available for adoption. Description: These five little ones are 1/2 beagle and 1/2 Rat Terrier. They were confiscated from their owners by Animal Control when they were 3 weeks of age. They're now old enough to be adopted. If you are interested, please e-mail to find out when you can meet them.

Description: Belle is a sweet dog in search of friendship, love and comfort. She tends to enjoy being a super loyal friend to mainly one person and doesn't want to have you out of her sight. Belle warms up quickly to women and those who are soft spoken. Hanging out in the yard, going for car rides, or just hanging around the house are all things Belle has a good time doing if she is in your company. She would do well as an only dog or as a part of a dog pack. Belle enjoys the company of her many foster dog friends, but also craves to be the center of her loyal friend's attention. Belle is fully housetrained and crate trained. She is a very smart lady dog and can do several fun tricks, including "What up dog?" (fancy shake), "Roll Over", and even balance a treat on her nose. Description: Hi, I'm Brandy. I am a very sweet girl despite having come from a home where I and 59 other dogs were severely neglected. I was one of the lucky ones as I survived and, thanks to AFH and my foster mom, I am now in good health. I am shy because of my past treatment and still do not like loud noises, sudden movements, or strangers; but my confidence will improve with time. Despite my past, my foster mom says I am lucky because I have been given a second chance. A chance for the kind of life I deserve. One with tenderness and love, a warm roof over my head, food to eat, and lots of treats! I am starting to know what it's like to be happy. I wag my tail a lot now, and I am always so happy when my foster mom comes home from work. I love to go on a walk and do really well on a leash. I get along great with my dog brothers, and with any dog we happen to meet when we are outside. I don't have a mean bone in my body but I don't know who I can trust yet and so I often hide behind my foster mom when strangers are near. I know I can trust my human foster brother, he has been very patient, gentle and kind. That is all it will take for me to trust you too. So if you are looking for a very sweet companion, who is crate trained, and housetrained, and you are patient and gentle, I am the one for you. But my mom won't let you adopt me unless you promise to make up for all the love I have missed during the first chapter of my life. But I can tell you this; you won't regret it and I will give it back ten-fold!

Description: Brisbane is a sweet, fun-loving girl who loves to play! The last of the Australian Shepherd (double-merle) litter. This wonderful dog is deaf, but despite this challenge, Brisbane has learned to sit and stay and the concept of "no" using hand commands. Like most Aussies, Brisbane has high energy and likes to be active. But she also loves to cuddle and when she sleeps, she sleeps soundly! She's house trained, crate trained, already spayed, and great with kids/cats and other dogs. She occasionally gets testy with a new dog friend, but once she's met, sniffed and established the friendship (about 3-5 min), everything is fine and she just wants to play. She would be a great match for someone who likes to run or take lots of walks!

Description: Hi, we are Dixie's Pups. There are four of us in this litter. My name is Candy. I am a female. I am white and brown. I look like a boxer. My sister's name is Summer. She has long fluffy hair. She is a very sweet girl. I (Candy) am a little rambunctious right now but I will grow out of it. Next I will introduce you to my two brothers Sunny and Prince. Sunny is a yellow or golden in color short hair boy that looks kind of labby to me. Last but not least is Prince, he is a real charmer who has long fluffy hair like summer and loves to give you kisses when picked up, but all of us do. Prince, Summer and Sunny have been adopted. Candy is the only one that is still available.

Description: Hi, my name is Cierra. I am a chihuahua mix (probably mixed with spitz or shiba inu). I am housebroken and crate trained. My foster mom says I am an active girl and need a lot of exercise. I certainly have the chihuahua trait of being nervous when I first meet you, but once I warm up I do just fine. I am not good with young children as they make me nervous so I would be best in a home with no children under 12 years of age. I am good with most other submissive small to medium dogs as I want to be the boss. My foster mom says no cats or other small animals because I am not nice to them.

Description: Coal is a wonderful boy. He is playful and loving and very smart. He loves playing with his friend Maggie at his foster home, but would really like to find a home of his own. Coal has received obedience training and has done very well. When he is adopted, his new family will also receive training so that he will continue to be the best doggie he can be.

Description: Hello! My name is Desi and I am a purebred Chihuahua and weigh only 7 pounds. I was rescued from a place called a puppy mill. I lived in a cage 24/7. Although I received little to no socialization, I've since made great strides. I just learned what a toy is and I LOVE to play with my foster brothers and sisters. My foster mom and her dogs are teaching me what it is like to be a family dog. In time I am sure I will overcome my fear of people and the outdoors, but I am going to need a family to show me lots of patience. I will need a family to continue my socialization, to teach me that I do not need to be so fearful with strangers. I am going to need someone to keep me on a schedule so that I know what to expect and help me get house trained and crate trained. I am looking for a family with older or no children, as the little kids are very noisy and intimidating for a nervous guy like me. I'm hoping my family will have another small dog as they could help show me the ropes. Can you be that family, to help me learn what it is like to be free and live without always being in fear? It may take me time, but I promise once I learn to trust you I will be able to return your love ten fold.

Description: My name is Dixie. I am an Airedale Terrier Mix. I had a litter of puppies (four to be exact). I came from a shelter in West Virginia along with my babies. The shelter we were at had a septic system problem and we needed to be rescued from this situation so I and my babies want to thank my foster parents and AFH for rescuing us. We now have a chance at finding our "Forever" home. I love to give kisses and I wag my tail when I see you. I am a very playful girl.

Description: Hi, my name is Elizabeth and I am looking for a new home. AFH rescued me from an awful life where I had to live outside all of the time. No one really cared about me when I lived outside and I developed heartworm and had all sorts of infections and parasites. The doctor said I have the worst arthritis that he has ever seen. All of my infections are now gone. My heartworm has been treated and I have been eating good food so I look and feel much better. I would love to live in a home with carpet so I can walk around and follow my mom or dad or go into the other rooms to check things out. Oh, I am supposed to tell you that I am completely house trained, so no worries there. It would also be nice if there were only a couple of stairs to go to the back yard. Right now, I have to be carried down a flight of stairs. And, sometimes when my foster mom is busy in the yard, I start to walk up the stairs by myself. Since my balance is not so good, she runs over to help so I do not fall down and really hurt myself. My foster mom says I am tenacious with a high spirit who does not like to give up. She also says I try to frolic and it makes her laugh. She really loves me, but thinks there is someone who can offer me more that what she can provide and really wants me to find the perfect forever home. I am so much better off now, but my foster mom says I deserve the best since things were so bad for so many years. And, who am I to argue? Be sure to contact AFH if you would like to meet me. Description: Emma would love nothing more than to cuddle up with her human in a warm home on a soft bed for long nap. She loves to go on walks and take car rides. She is happy to lean against you for a long body rub while you watch TV, read a book, etc. Emma is a "cuddle bug" but will let you know when she does not want to be loved on. She has been dubbed an "amazing house guest" and will lay quietly by a fire, open sunny window or heat vent for most of the day if given a choice. Emma has a "silly" streak which often has her hopping like a bunny into the room, full body wiggles, and squeaking along to your favorite song. She comes with a life time Barkbusters training contract. Emma would do best as an only dog and is not good with cats. She needs a home with older children.

Description: Georgette, a red and white adult female basset mix (5 years old) is a little love bug! Georgette's tail wags nonstop and will try to jump or play to get her people's attention. She uses the doggie door nicely and is not a fussy eater. Georgette is a happy girl who is waiting for her forever home. Spayed and UTD on Shots/HW.

Description: Gertie, a red and white adult (3 yr old) female, has gone through many transitions during the past few months. This cute girl used to be an outside dog and ended up having puppies. She was sent to the pound, where BROOD found her and took over her care. Gertie is a sweet girl who loves people and is good with other dogs for the most part but does not like cats. She is energetic, well behaved, fun and would also like to be a lap dog. She is skittish and seems to be aware of every noise around her. Her new home will have to be patient with her until she builds up her confidence. She has been blossoming and trying to come out of her shell. She seems to want to cuddle, but is sometimes to shy to approach. While Gertie likes some dogs, she seems to be selective on who her friends will be, so she would do best as a one-only dog. Description: Hank is a little sweetie, he likes to jump up to receive hugs and kisses since he is so petite. He was the runt of the litter and has not grown very much, he is about 35 lbs and has probably attained his full size. He has beautiful markings that look like a saddle on his back. He is very sensitive, he actually gets his feeling hurt if you tell him no. He likes to be pet and scratched and held in a lap. He is active and can be a barker if he sees someone he does not know, he stops when corrected verbally most of the time. Hank is very nervous around new people at first, especially children, so homes with kids under 10 years old will not be considered. He has not really been tested with cats, but he does like to sniff and whine at the ones for adoption in our office. Hank is crate trained and almost housebroken, he just needs a house! Description: Hippie, Hank, Hoover and Harvey and Jack Russell mixes. They came to us from a WV shelter but are now in foster homes with AFH. Hippie has been adopted.

Description: Huey, Holly, Heather, Heath, and Haley are very fun, happy, playful pups. You can't help but smile as you watch them interact. They love to run and play with each other. They have a high energy level but are not hyper. They love to explore but at times they just sit and watch what's going on. They are very reserved with strangers but once you gain their trust they are very affectionate. Huey is the largest male. He is the most loving pup. He hugs your neck with this front paws and with his thick coat it feels like a nice cuddley bear hug. Heath is the other male and the most reserved. It takes a while to gain his love. Once you do you'll have a companion for life. He is just the cutest thing. He's very ticklish. Just start rubbing his sides or belly and his back leg starts thumping. Haley is the smallest female. She has four white paws that look like socks. She is another one that is very reserved. Now she runs to you for affection then she's off and playing with the others. Heather, female, has the prettiest face and looks like a fox. She is the most outgoing. She's the first to approach strangers and is the leader in the exploring new things. Holly is the another very affectionate little girl. She's usually right with Heather as they like to do everything together.
